Subject Incredible Coincidence!

The previous lotto numbers on 24/05 were 7, 17, 22, 27, 40. Which multiplied by the factors 2, 5, 8, 11, 13 and then summed up gives 1092, then modulo 89 plus 2 gives 26.

The latest lotto numbers on 31/05 were 27, 28, 29, 34, 43. Which multiplied by the factors 2, 5, 8, 11, 13 and then summed up gives 1359, then modulo 89 plus 2 gives 26, again!.

Yes, that is true! The tablet is still in my office, waiting for his owner, the random winner of the second round of CodeFu 2013.

Actually, it's not so incredible... The probability is just 1/89.

You mean, (1/89)*(1/89) = 0.00012624668 or 0.0126 % which I regard as incredible

The probability the first number to be X and the second number to be X is (1/89)*(1/89).

When X = 2, P2 = (1/89)*(1/89)

When X = 3, P3 = (1/89)*(1/89)

... till X = 90

P2 + P3 + ... + P90 = 89 * P = 89 * (1/89)*(1/89) = 1/89.

Did I change your mind?

Yeah, that's the probability to repeat the same number twice. But to have a draw for thrid time the repeated number must be one of the numbers not eligible for a prize, so the probability is not (1/89)*(1/89) since there are probably more such numbers, but still is around let say 10*(1/89)*(1/89), which is 0.1%.
